The Government has granted amnesty for 5,774 prisoners from prisons across the coun­try in honour of the National Victory Day and on human­itarian grounds. It is learnt that 985 prisoners, including four foreigners, were released from the Insein prison under amnesty at 2:30 pm yesterday.

 

Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Win Tint and Minister for Transport Commander of Yangon Region Police Force Police Brig-Gen Myo Min Htike of Yangon Re­gion Government delivered speeches to 985 inmates from Insein prison at the Stadium Hall at 2 pm.

 

Included in all the released prisoners were 676 women. Four foreigners — Mr Sean Turnell, Mr Toru Kubota, Mrs Vicky Bowman and U Kyaw Htay Oo who holds American citizenship — were also re­leased with the aim of main­taining friendly relationships with their respective countries.
