Abe will meet French President Emmanuel Macron at the presidential palace in Paris on Tuesday.
The leaders are expected to discuss the agenda for the G20 summit, which Japan will host in June. Items on the agenda include the promotion of free trade and the need to address the issue of plastic waste in the oceans.

Abe hopes Japan and France can work together to make the G20 summit a success.

Macron will chair this year's G7 summit in August.

After France, Prime Minister Abe is scheduled to visit Italy, Slovakia, Belgium, the United States, and Canada.
