Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will attend the UN General Assembly in New York next week and hold bilateral summits with the US and Iranian leaders on its sidelines.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga on Friday disclosed the schedule for the prime minister's trip to the United States and Belgium.
Abe will leave Tokyo for New York next Monday. He will give a speech at the UN General Assembly later in the week.
Abe will meet US President Donald Trump to discuss bilateral trade and other issues. The prime minister will also hold a summit with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Abe is expected to ask Rouhani to help ease tensions in the Middle East.
Abe will leave New York for Belgium on Thursday. Abe will return to Japan on September 28.
