The number of day-trippers from Thailand and other countries who visited Myanmar through Tachilek border gate from May 3 to 9 this year reached about 23644, according to the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (DOHT), Tachilek branch.
Tourists used to travel to Myanmar through border checkpoints to enjoy its natural landscapes, attractive tourist sites and to observe a diverse range of cultures and traditions of ethnic tribes.
During this week, 22055 Thais and 306 foreigners from other countries made a day trip to Tachilek while 15 foreigners visited Talay-Lanttaung Pagoda. Then, 191 foreigners including Thais traveled to Mongphyat and Kengtung staying overnights. Meanwhile, 1077 tourists including domestic tourists visited inner towns and cities in Myanmar.
A total of 433998 tourists visited Myanmar via Tachilek border gate between January 1 and May 9 this year, according to statistics provided by DOHT, Tachilek branch.—Wai Yan Linn, IPRD
