Senior military officers from 12 nations gather in Nay Pyi Taw to enhance anti-terrorism measures and foster mutual understanding

 

The opening ceremony of the ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Group on Counter-Terrorism (EWG on CT) tabletop exercise was held at Park Royal Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. Co-chaired by Myanmar and the Russian Fed­eration, the event witnessed the active participation of senior military officers from 12 ADMM-Plus countries, aiming to build mutual relations, trust, and friend­ship among militaries in the ASEAN and partner nations while enhancing anti-ter­rorism measures within the region.

 

General Maung Maung Aye, Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy, and Air) of Myanmar, opened the ceremony using a touch screen and delivered his opening remarks. Following the ceremony, a group photo was taken with the delegates from ASEAN and partner countries participat­ing in the tabletop exercise.

 

Throughout the day, the exercise was diligently executed by member countries, led by co-chairs Myanmar and the Russian Federation, who are jointly guiding the ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Group on Counter-Terrorism for the term 2021-2023.

 

In the evening, General Maung Maung Aye met Lt-Gen Mikhail Nosulev, Com­mander of the Eastern Military District of Russia, who is also attending the exercise. The two military leaders engaged in a friendly discussion, exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation and friendship be­tween their respective armed forces. The meeting was attended by officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and the military of the Russian Federation, including Military Attaché Colonel Sergey S Kurchenko. — MNA/TH
