MYANMAR claimed a 3-0 victory over the Philippines in the final group match of the AFCU-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers at the Mandalar Thiri Stadium in Mandalay yesterday.
Although both teams will not be advancing to the next stage of the championship, they made every effort to showcase their skills at the match.
Myanmar lined up with goal keeper Khin Myat Moe, Su Pyae Pyae Kyaw, Win Win Lae, Kay Kay, Captain Myat Noe Khin, Swe Mar Aung, Wai Phoo Eain, Win Win, Pont Pont Pyae Maung, May Thet Mon Myint, and Phyu Phyu Win.
Myanmar dominated the entire match, and the team’s win depended on an early goal by Su Pyae Pyae Kyaw, who managed to score the opening goal just 37 minutes into play.
The opening goal boosted Myanmar’s confidence, and the team fought hard for more goals till the end of the first half. A change in tactic in the second half lead to the teams fighting to keep the ball.
The Philippines team played better defence and attack in the second half. However, Myanmar managed to score the second and the winning goal at 89 and 90 minutes.
The goals were scored by Zin Mar Htwe and Swe Mar Aung, and at the final whistle, the result was 3-0 in favor of the Myanmar team.
In another match, China took the first position in group play by beating Bangladesh 3-0.
China PR and Bangladesh will join the top three teams from the 2017 edition — DPR Korea, Korea Republic, and Japan — along with host Thailand in the finals, scheduled to be held in September.—Lynn Thit(Tgi)
