THE ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) held a Regional Consultation on Commonalities of EIA in ASEAN Members States and Advancing a Harmonized and Rights - Based Approach to EIA in ASEAN at the Melia Hotel in Yangon yesterday.
During the meeting, Professor Dr Amara Ponsapich, the Chair of the AICHR, Ambassador (Rtd) U Hla Myint, the Myanmar Representative of AICHR, U Hla Maung Thein, the Director General of Environmental Conservation Department, and Mr Andrew Raine, the Head International Environmental Law Unit of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), delivered speeches. The meeting was attended by representatives of ASEAN countries to the AICHR, environment and human rights experts from ASEAN regional and international organizations, experts from international organizations, civil society organizations and representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation.
