An Air Canada flight bound for Australia from Canada encountered severe turbulence and made an emergency landing on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu on Thursday morning Hawaii time.

The airline says about 35 people appear to have minor injuries.

The Boeing 777-200 was flying from Vancouver to Sydney with 269 passengers and 15 crew members on board.

About two hours after passing the Hawaiian islands sudden turbulence shook the plane.

The aircraft's pilot decided to divert to Hawaii and touched down at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on Oahu at around 6:45 a.m. local time.
