ALL YBS buses are running as usual in Yangon on 2 February, said Joint Secretary U Hla Aung of the Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA).

“Now, our YBS buses are running as usual because there are many commuters who depend upon the public transportation,” he explained.

The YBS buses from all buses lines and other city taxis and private vehicles are running on the road in Yangon Region. However, the roads are not busy like before the outbreak of a pandemic. Only companies’ staff are going on the road.

“The number of running YBS buses dropped significantly in the pandemic period. So far, over 3,000 buses are resuming their operations as usual, which is more than three-fourths of all YBS city buses. And, YBS buses are carrying out around 450,000 or 500,000 commuters.

“Usually, the YBS carries 1.8 million passengers a day. Most people are travelling with YBS buses, particularly in the morning and evening. Only a few passengers are on board the YBS buses in the afternoon,” said Dr Maung Aung, the secretary of YRTA.

More than 4,000 buses from nearly 100 bus lines provide daily service for the passengers in the Yangon Region. Now, YBS operates over 3,000 buses.
