THE opening ceremony of the Capacity-Building Course 1/2026 on the Anti-Money Laundering and Combatting the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) was held yesterday morning at the Public Finance Management Academy of the Ministry of Finance and Revenue in Nay Pyi Taw.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dr Kan Zaw, Union Minister for Finance and Revenue, Daw Than Than Lin and U Han Win Aung, Deputy Ministers for Finance and Revenue, Heads of Departments, guests, trainers and trainees.

At the ceremony, Union Minister Dr Kan Zaw highlighted that the course was opened with the aim of more effectively implementing the Anti-Money Laundering and Combatting the Financing of Terrorism (AML/ CFT) processes being implemented by the State through the cooperation of departments under the ministry. He focused on the AML/CFT process, which is an important process for the country, as the use of the legal banking system to transfer and place illegal funds can affect the country’s economic stability, strong financial sector, and investment. Therefore, he stated that it is necessary for supervisory authorities and law enforcement agencies to closely supervise and cooperate effectively by sector.

He highlighted that supervisors can only effectively supervise if they are systematically aware of AML/CFT supervision processes. He urged that reporting organizations need to carry out their AML/CFT responsibilities, such as verifying suspicious financial transactions and financial transactions exceeding the specified amount, and submitting reports promptly. He encouraged trainees to pay special attention to the subjects taught and apply them effectively and practically in the respective fields they are responsible for.

Altogether, 35 officers from departments under the Ministry of Finance and Revenue will attend the course, and it will last five days. — MoFR
