A leading US medical journal has published a review saying incidences of a strong allergic reaction to a coronavirus vaccine have occurred in about one in every 100,000 recipients.

The expert review appears in the New England Journal of Medicine.

It says that after 2 million people have been inoculated with a vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, one in every 100,000 exhibited symptoms of anaphylaxis, a strong allergic reaction.

The experts note that news of such reactions has raised fear among some people about the risks of a new vaccine. 

But they note that vaccine-associated anaphylaxis is "a treatable condition with no permanent effects."

They say "safety signals are almost inevitable" when millions of people receive vaccinations.

They point to the need to closely monitor safety and disclose information in order to maintain public confidence to minimize vaccine hesitancy.
