LOCALS express that ancient Inwa, which is home to many historical pagodas and ancient buildings, is crowded with domestic and foreign tourists during this long holiday.

Besides locals from nearby areas, domestic travellers from Yangon and Mandalay as well as foreign tourists flock to the famous spots in Inwa.

“This holiday, Inwa is crowded with domestic and foreign tourists. There were even more tourists on the full moon day of Tabaung. It is because of religious days and long holidays. With more travellers, local pony-cart drivers are now back in their busy business. Visitors spend the whole day going around,” said Inwa local researcher, and writer Bo Shake (Yadanapura).

Having historical buildings such as the moat and the city wall, ancient Inwa, has attracted tourist attention and it can become a famous destination if restored. Many people usually visit Inwa by motorbike and car during the long holidays, and it is expected to be the same for the coming New Year Thingyan festival, he said.

During this long summer holiday, many families from the Yangon Region are reportedly making long trips as well as day trips. —MT/ZN
