Another strong earthquake has hit southern Turkey, near the border with Syria. New casualties have been reported in both countries.

Turkish authorities say a quake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, local time. They say it was followed minutes later by a tremor with a magnitude of 5.8.

Turkey's interior minister reported that three deaths and 213 injuries have been confirmed.

The jolts prompted residents to run out of buildings in Adana, one of the cities hit hard by the deadly earthquake two weeks ago.

In Syria, a volunteer group called the White Helmets said the latest tremors have left more than 130 people injured. It said buildings have also been damaged.

The group tweeted that several civilians have been injured, due to falling building debris, stampedes, and jumps from high areas.

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake on February 6, and the ensuing tremors, have left more than 47,000 people dead in Turkey and Syria.
