Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Thant Sin Maung participated in the 26th ASEAN Transport Ministers (ATM) Meeting, and associated meetings held on 24 and 25 November via videoconferencing.
On the first day, 24 November, 26th ASEAN Transport Ministers (ATM) Meeting, 19th ASEAN-China Transport Ministers Meeting, and ASEAN Transport Ministers and US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) Meeting were held via videoconferencing.
The meetings were participated by Transport Ministers from 10 ASEAN countries and China, the Secretary-General of the ASEAN Secretariat and officials from member countries, and officials from the US-ASEAN Business Council.
The Myanmar delegation was led by Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Thant Sin Maung. The meetings were also participated by the Permanent Secretary, and senior officials from the Department of Civil Aviation, Department of Marine Administration, Department of Road Transport Administration, Road Department, and Myanma Railways.
The 26th ASEAN Transport Ministers (ATM) Meeting was chaired by Brunei. During the meeting, participants discussed matters related to ASEAN’s Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan (2016-2025), Singapore-Kunming Rail Link and ASEAN Highway Network, ASEAN’s cooperation with China, Japan and the Republic of Korea on the transport sector, COVID-19 response efforts and post-pandemic measures to be taken by the transport sector.
During the meeting, Union Minister U Thant Sin Maung discussed the approval of ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework (ACRF), future plans in the transport sector, Myanmar’s COVID-19 response efforts led by the National-Level Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19, the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP), and other issues related to the transport sector in Myanmar. The participants discussed high priority plans to be implemented in 2021, mid-term implementation of the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan, ASEAN Air Traffic Management Master Plan, ASEAN road safety and other relevant issues.
In 24 November afternoon, the 19th ASEAN-China Transport Ministers Meeting was held. The participants discussed cooperation between ASEAN countries and China in the transport sector and future plans.
In the ASEAN Transport Ministers and US-ASEAN Business Council Meeting, the participants discussed ways to ensure that the supply chain in the ASEAN region is not disturbed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On 25 November, 18th ASEAN-Japan Transport Ministers Meeting and 11th ASEAN-Korea Transport Ministers Meeting will be held.—MNA
