24.5 acres of illegally grown poppy plantations have been destroyed by local authority in Ngape Township of Magway Region since December 25 this year.

A combined team-1 led by Major Lin Tun and Police Captain Aung Saw Oo are conducting the search operation of illegally grown poppy fields in the Township. About 10 acres of 2 feet high blooming poppies near Makann Village in the Township were destroyed on December 25 this year. Similarly, local authority destroyed about seven acres of 2 feet high blooming poppies near Htawzar Village in the Township on December 27. So far, authority wiped out a total of 17 acres of poppy fields in the Township.

In a similar incident, a combined team-2 led by Major Min Naung Tun and Police Captain Zaw Win destroyed another 7.5 acres of poppy plantations including 2.5 acres of 2 feet high blooming poppies near Yephyu Village, three acres of six inches high blooming poppies near Bok Village and two acres of six inches high blooming poppies near Thitseint Village in Ngape Township and further investigations are underway, according to the Ngape Police Station.—Daw Yu Yu Thein(Ngape IPRD)
