A workshop on the de­velopment of the edible oil sector was held yes­terday morning at the City Hall in Pathein, with Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw delivering the opening speech.

Afterwards, experts and relevant department officials held discussions on the development of the edible oil sector. The topics covered the selection and cultiva­tion of high-yield, quality seeds and the provision of agricultural technol­ogies; challenges in ex­panding the cultivation and production of oilseed crops to achieve region­al edible oil sufficiency; the cultivation of oilseed crops in accordance with Good Agricultural Prac­tices; and edible oil poli­cies, and local edible oil prices.

Afterwards, agricul­tural experts, officials from the Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization, local oil mill owners, oil­seed farmers, and agri­cultural produce quality experts held group dis­cussions on producing rice bran oil from paddy milling by-products, in­creasing the cultivation of oil crops, achieving target yields, and meth­ods to reduce pesticide residue effects in oilseed crop cultivation.

The workshop fo­cused on the acquisition and use of seeds and ag­ricultural inputs, oilseed sales, purchasing and milling operations and market and price condi­tions. The workshop con­tinues on 27 July, accord­ing to reports. — Region IPRD/TH
