FROM April to November, both local and foreign tourists totalling 33,780 visited the Bagan Archaeological Museum, an official from the museum under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture said.
The number of visitor arrivals was just some 2,000 in September. However, it increased to 5,000 in October, the dry season, and there were around 6,900 visitors, according to statistics until 26 November.
“The visitor arrival to the museum is large in the dry season. For now, there are more than 200 visitors per day regularly on weekdays but there are more than 400 or even more than 800 on weekends including students. On the day after the full moon day of Tazaungmone, visitor arrivals mounted to 1,000. In the monsoon season, September alone, there were just 2,000 tourists, but elevated again in October to some 5,000 and there were around 6,900 visitors until 26 November. From April 2024 to 25-26 November, the museum received a total of visitor arrival 33,780, earning more than K36 million,” said the official.
The foreign visitor arrival is around 30 a month, he said.
Except on Mondays and public holidays, the museum is open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, admission is K1,000 for adults per local visitor and free for children under 12 years old and students with school recommendation letter and monks, while it charges K10000 per foreigner.
In the previous financial year, 94,951 local and foreign tourists visited the museum and earned more than K71.9 million, according to statistics. — MT/ZS
