Lacquerware producers in ancient city Bagan said that they are relying only on domestic visitors for their products although tourists are visiting the UNESCO Heritage Site of Myanmar.
Daw Nilar Myint, the Principal, Lacquerware Technology College, said that the training facility is generating 200 trainees each year, and conducting a two-year diploma course aimed at producing attractive handicrafts for foreign markets.
“We are conversing traditional products, while creating alternative designs,” the Principal added.
Myanmar Lacquerware Association is planning to organize a trade fair of products.
“Although both local and foreign visitors are coming to Bagan, few tourists purchased lacquerwares, and that we are discussing to hold a grand sale of lacquers in near future,” said MLA’s Financial Officer U Myo Myo.— Min Htet Aung (Mandalay Sub-Printing House)
