Bago regional chief minister U Win Thein and officials spoke words of encouragement to flood victims at a rescue camp opened at Tintaya monastery in Madauk, Nyaunglaybin Township, Bago Region this morning.

Next, the regional chief minister and officials gave cash aids and relief items provided by Regional Disaster Management Department and well-wishers to 4,254 people from 876 households who are in nine rescue camps.

The water level of Sittaung River exceeds five feet above its danger level. Hence, rescue camps have been opened starting from 7 August. In addition, locals near Madauk are being evacuated to safety places such as their relatives and nearby monasteries.
