Bamboo baskets sell well in Kyaukhtu Region

Different kinds of traditional woven baskets are earning the local people a good income in Kyaukhtu Township, Gangaw District in Magway Region.

“We have to use thin bamboo strips called “Tazaungmone Hnee” to weave baskets. Because it is free from insects and makes us easy to weave various sizes of basket,” said U Kyin Thein, a local basket weaver from Panhsan Village.

Local people in rural area in Kyaukhtu Township make different baskets ranging from round bamboo trays to bamboo mats and earn their main family income from basket weaving.—IPRD
