US President-elect Joe Biden says he aims to administer 100 million COVID-19 vaccine shots to the American people in the first 100 days of his administration.
Biden held a news conference on Tuesday to introduce the top members of his team that will respond to the virus once his administration takes office on January 20.
He said the members are "going to get ready on day one to spare not a single effort to get this pandemic under control, so we can get back to work, get back to our lives, get back to our loved ones."
Biden said he will sign an executive order to ask all Americans, within the bounds of the law, to wear masks in public during his first 100 days in office.
He said he also plans to administer at least 100 million vaccine shots and will try to reopen a majority of schools during the same 100 days.
The President-elect said, "my first 100 days won't end the COVID virus." But he added, "we can change the course of the disease and change life in America for the better."
