An ancient burial urn believed to be from the Pyu Period was unearthed by a man in Paungdale Township, Bago Region on 5 March, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

A local man identified as U Aung Kyaw Hein, 49 years old from Paungdale Township discovered broken pieces of ancient bricks by chance while digging up a foundation to build a toilet in the compound of his house at 10 a.m. yesterday. Upon receiving information about the discovery of ancient artifacts, a group of local officials led by led by Assistant Director of the Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture U Soe Min and Township Administrator U Thet Paing Htoo went to the scene to assess the items.

The official from the Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library confirmed that broken bricks were to be from the Pyu Era. They also found a burial urn which has about 7 inch diameter and is thought to be from the Pyu Era.—MOHA
