A suicide bomb attack near a government intelligence office has killed 12 people and injured more than 100 in southeastern Afghanistan.

A car packed with explosives was detonated on Sunday near an office of the National Directorate of Security in Ghazni Province.

Local officials say the dead include employees of the directorate and civilians, and some of the injured are children.

There are schools and houses in the area. The officials say the injured are being treated at hospitals.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. The insurgent group also said it carried out a bombing in Kabul on Monday last week.
