A ceremony to mark a significant achievement in providing electricity for 50 % of the households throughout the country  by Electricity Distribution Enterprise under Electricity and Power ministry was held at the office of the state electrical engineer’s office in the town of Pha-an in Kayin state yesterday morning.  

First, Kayin state Hulttaw chairman U Saw Chit Khin, Kayin state electricity and industry minister U Soe Hlaing, Kayin state chief advocate U Saw Chit Myint Lay cut a ceremonial ribbon to unveil the arch marking the achievement in suppling electricity for 50 % of the total households in the country. 

Then, Kayin state electricity and trade minister U Soe Hlaing made a speech on behalf of Kayin state government. He said he was delighted that the country has achieved in providing electricity for 50 percent of the total households throughout the country as well as 50 percent ot the total households in Kayin state. 

In Kayin state, extension of electric power lines, construction of electric power transmission stations, upgrading existing electric power lines and transmission stations have been in a high priority.

 In 2015-2016 fiscal year, electricity was provided for 49356 households, accounting for 16.02 percent of the total households in Kayin state. In 2016-2017, electricity was supplied for 60483 households, accounting for 19.63 percent of the total households. In 2017-2018, electricity was supplied for 65858 households, accounting for 22.03 percent of the total households. In 2018-2019, electricity was provided for 104786 households, accounting for 34.02 percent of the total households. In 2018-2019, electricity was provided for 104786 households, accounting for 50 percent of the total households in Kayin state, he said.

 Also present at the ceremony were deputy chairman of Kayin State Hluttaw, ministers of Kayin state government, Kayin State Chief Auditor and departmental heads at state/ district/ township level and staff. —Saw Myo Min Thein (IPRD)
