THE China-Myanmar media tea party took place on 2 December at the Wyndham Grand Yangon Hotel in Mingala Taungnyunt Township, Yangon Region.
Media representatives from both countries engaged in extensive discussions on several significant topics. These included the visit of the State Administration Council (SAC) Chairman to China, the economic ties between the two nations, the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) economic cooperation meeting, people-to-people exchanges, and Chinese President Xi Jinping’s participation in international forums such as BRICS, APEC, and G20.
The discussions also covered plans for celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar in 2025. The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar outlined its plans for commemorative activities to mark this milestone. Other topics included China’s efforts to support peace and stability in northern Shan State and the reopening of trade posts along the Myanmar-China border.
During the event, Minister-Counsellor Dr Zheng Zhihong provided an overview of China’s economic situation and ongoing reforms. He highlighted President Xi Jinping’s participation in recent multilateral summits, where China reaffirmed its commitment to openness and regional collaboration. Dr Zheng emphasized the importance of enhancing political trust and strategic cooperation between China and Myanmar to benefit their people.
Dr Zheng also stressed the media’s pivotal role in reporting on China-Myanmar relations and fostering mutual understanding. He expressed hope that such efforts would create a favourable environment for stronger ties between the two countries.
The event was attended by Dr Zheng Zhihong, officials from the Chinese Embassy, and over 20 journalists from China and Myanmar, including chief editors, editors, and reporters. — ASH/TMT
