City Mart Holding Co Ltd uploaded a public announcement on their Facebook page and in City Mart branches on 25 March that said they will limit the purchasing amount of household products to ensure every customer is able to buy their fair share.
An official from City Mart headquarters said this restriction is meant to deal with panic buying, that has occurred twice, and ensure food security among all customers. They will soon make announcements requesting the public not to panic buy and to answer frequently asked questions.
Group Corporate Affairs Director U Win Myint Aung said there is no shortage of supplies nor have the prices increased, and they have announced that on their social media platforms. He said they have discussed with their suppliers to ensure basic foodstuffs, medical products and household products are regularly restocked.
Although there is no time limit announced for the restrictions, they will be in place to ensure everyone has access to basic necessities. There are 40 City Mart branches in Yangon alone and City Mall Online is available for online ordering.
The City Mart Holding Marketing Director said there has been an increase in online orders beginning from last week, especially of basic foodstuffs, sanitizers, disinfectants, canned food, rice and cooking oil. The purchasing limitations are in place to ensure everybody can access basic necessities.
