A Civil-Military Cooperation Workshop on Natural Disaster Management was held for the third time in Nay Pyi Taw from 7 to 8 June, 2019.
The workshop was conducted by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the Ministry of Defence and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).
The workshop was held with the aim of streamlining work process of the natural disaster management in cooperation with the Tatmadaw. It was attended by representatives from the natural disaster management committees, senior officers from the Ministry of Defence, representatives from the Myanmar Red Cross Society and the United Nations Organizations.
In his opening address at the workshop, Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Soe Aung said that the National Disaster Management Committee held its No. 2/2019 workshop at the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw and which was attended by work committees and members of region and state governments.
“In carrying out the process of the natural disaster management in line with the Vice-President’s instructions, cooperation among the Tatmadaw, ministries, region and state government, people, INGOs was of great importance to bring about a success. Upon considering the effectiveness of the civil-military cooperation and procedures of the regional countries, adjustable implementation should be carried out to do so. Therefore concerted efforts were needed to implement the procedures with regard to the civil-military cooperation. During the two-day workshop, endeavours would be made to find ways to respond the natural disasters and the outcomes of the workshop would be implemented in cooperation with officials concerned. — MNA (Translated by Win Ko Ko Aung)
