MYANMAR is hosting the Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV) and Ay­eyawady-Chao Phraya-Me­kong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Tourism Ministers’ and Senior Officials’ Meetings at the Sedona Hotel in Yangon from 27 to 29 No­vember. Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism, Dr Thet Thet Khine, attended the 6th ACMECS Tourism Ministers’ Meeting held on the morning of 27 November.

 

The meeting was chaired by Ms Darany Phommavongsa, Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos, and attended by ministers and senior officials from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

 

During the meeting, the Union minister highlighted sev­eral key initiatives, including the implementation of a five-coun­try tour to boost tourism in the ACMECS region, following the ACMECS Summit held in Kun­ming, China, on 7 November 2024, promoting the use of the ACMECS Tourism brand in Myanmar and encouraging its adoption by all member coun­tries, Myanmar’s progress in implementing the ACMECS Tourism Cooperation Plan 2023-2025, the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for tourism and related services in Myanmar, the intro­duction of visas on arrival for tourists, proposals for inclusion in the press release of the 6th ACMECS Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, and Myanmar’s ap­proval to chair the 6th ACMECS Tourism Ministers’ and Senior Officials’ Meeting.

 

Following the meeting, the Union minister participated in a press conference. Tourism min­isters, senior officials, and rep­resentatives from CLMV and ACMECS member countries visited prominent landmarks, including the Cultural Museum, Bogyoke Market, Maha Ban­doola Park, and the Shwedagon Pagoda.

 

In the evening, Union Min­ister Dr Thet Thet Khine hosted a dinner for the visiting tourism ministers, senior officials, and representatives. — MNA/TKO
