UNION Minister for Construction U Han Zaw inspected the development projects in Mandalay Region and Kayah State via virtual meeting on 30 May.


Deputy Minister Dr Kyaw Lin, and directors-general, directors and officials from the building, road, bridge, and rural development departments were present at the video meeting.


At the meeting, Director (Civil) of Road Department in Mandalay Region U Kyaw Phone Lwin reported on the conditions of roads and bridges in Mandalay Region ith the use of power point. He also explained the conditions of COVID-19 preventive measures in the projects.


Mandalay Region’s Director (Civil) from the Construction Team (1) of Bridge Department U Kyaw Swar Tun and Director (Civil) of Rural Road Development Department U Myo presented the conditions of road and bridge projects to the video meeting.


Upon the progress of Urban and Housing Development Department (UHDD) in Mandalay Region, its Director U Thet Naing said a total of 13 four-storey apartments for staff were constructed in seven townships during 2019-2020 FY. Along with the staff housings, a district office and a community centre were constructed and 11 infrastructure projects were implemented.


In Mandalay Region, UHDD constructed 460 staff housing units in 2016-2017 FY, 476 in 2017-2018, 1,058 in 2018-2019, and 204 in 2019-2020.
During the past four years, UHDD built a total of 26,138 staff housing units — 4,044 for their staff, and 22,094 for other departments’ staff.


At present, the ministry’s staff housing accommodated 25.07 per cent of its staff in Mandalay Region. This is one-fourth of the ministry’s total staff in the region.


The ministry is also trying to provide accommodations for one-third of the staff in the region, said the director.


Deputy Director (Civil) from Special Building Team (6) of the Building Department in Mandalay Region U Kyaw Thiha reported on the progress of construction in the region to the video meeting.


Director (Civil) of U Pyae Phyo Sal, Assistant Director (Civil) from Special Bridge Team (6) of Bridge Department U Shin Thant Htut, Director (Civil) of Rural Road Development Department U Aung San, and Director of Urban and Housing Development Department U Kyaw San Win also detailed about the ministry’s works in Kayah State. The Union Minister expressed satisfaction in the construction progress of roads, bridges, and buildings in Mandalay Region.


He also urged the officials to oversee the ongoing development progress and transportation sector in the region.


For Kayah State, the Union Minister appreciated the development progress of road, bridge, housing projects, and rural roads, and urged the officials to ensure the projects’ quality standard, and use the budgets in accordance with the financial rules.—
