FOUR Chinese citizens trying to smuggle 129 Contraband cell phones worth nearly K24 million into Myanmar were caught at Yangon International Airport at 5.20 pm on 8 June.

A combined team comprising Customs officials and police officers found suspicious-looking images when they scanned the bags of four Chinese citizens including Mr. Zhi Weizhen through the X-ray machine at Terminal 1 of the airport.

When the police and Customs officials opened the suitcases they found the illegal cell phones from the four who arrived at the airport from Suwunna Bommi International Airport in Bangkok on board the Bangkok Airways.

Another 36 illegal cell phones worth about K7.2 million were also seized from a South Korean citizen at the same terminal at 6 am.

When the officials of the combined team scanned the suitcase of the Korean, Mr. Lee Myung Ja, they noticed suspicious-looking images, and when they opened it they found the illegal phones in his possession. Mr. Lee arrived at the airport from Hanoi airport in Viet Nam on board Vietjet flight. —MPF
