An Air Canada aircraft collided with a fire truck at New York's LaGuardia Airport on Sunday night, killing the pilot and co-pilot, and injuring several people.
The plane was flying from Montreal when it crashed into the vehicle as it landed. It was carrying 72 passengers and four crewmembers.
The Air Canada Express flight was being operated by its regional partner Jazz Aviation.
US media outlets reported that the vehicle was responding to a separate incident.
A passenger told Reuters about his experience, saying, "We were sleeping and landing, and all of a sudden, boom, woke up in shock."
The US Federal Aviation Administration issued a complete ground stop at the regional hub due to the emergency. The airport reopened at 2 p.m. on Monday.
The US National Transportation Safety Board is investigating on the ground.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a post that the collision is "deeply saddening." He added that Canadian officials are working closely with their US counterparts as the investigation continues.
