General Mya Tun Oo, Mem­ber of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Deputy Prime Minister, who also serves as the Union Minister for Transport and Communications, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the newly established locomotive as­sembly and manufacturing facto­ry in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

During the visit, the manag­ing director of Myanma Railways and officials provided a detailed overview of the factory’s histo­ry, its current operations, and the production processes of new diesel electric locomotives. The Union minister underscored the significance of addressing the country’s locomotive require­ments, strategic planning for fu­ture locomotive production, and capitalizing on the expertise of the factory’s staff.

 

In his remarks, the Union minister highlighted the objec­tive of achieving self-sufficiency in locomotive production, which not only conserves foreign cur­rency expenditure but also bol­sters the domestic rail industry. He emphasized the collabora­tion with relevant ministries and institutions, advocating for localized production to meet the country’s locomotive demands. The Union minister also empha­sized meticulous adherence to procurement protocols, factory security, employee safety, and addressing the factory’s opera­tional needs.

 

Subsequently, the Union minister and party examined the manufacturing process of train carriages, the production of wheels essential for new lo­comotives, and specifically re­viewed the newly assembled die­sel electric locomotive DF-1273. Additionally, they observed the ongoing assembly of two more locomotives within the premises of the Locomotive Assembly and Manufacturing Factory.

 

The Union minister conclud­ed the inspection by giving neces­sary directives to ensure the ef­fective and efficient continuation of locomotive production in Nay Pyi Taw’s factory. — MNA/TS
