THE Disaster Management Cen­tre (DMC) held its 2/2025 meeting, chaired by the National Disaster Management Committee’s Vice- Chairs. The meeting covered the aftermath of the 28 March earth­quake, which led to 78 aftershocks. A total of 653 people were report­edly rescued, with 640 bodies re­covered. Search and rescue op­erations continue under a Level 5 status.

 

Union Minister for Home Af­fairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung who is also Vice-Chair of the National Disaster Management Committee emphasized the urgency of quickly relocating affected individuals to temporary shelters before the rain and outlined plans for evaluating building damages in three levels. Temporary shelters like Assem­bled Board Houses (ABH) will be used. He stressed the need for immediate inspections of govern­ment offices, hospitals, and staff housing and efficient distribution of international aid.

 

Following the meeting, offi­cials visited temporary shelters and conducted checks on water, fire safety and other essential ser­vices at five sports grounds in Nay Pyi Taw. — MNA/KZL
