A donation ceremony to support the repair of hospital buildings and laboratories damaged by the recent Mandalay earth­quake was held yesterday morn­ing at the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Kh aing Win, the dep­uty minister, directors-gener­al, departmental officials, and representatives from donor organizations were present at the event.

 

At the ceremony, represent­atives from the donor organiza­tions explained the purpose of their donations. The Myanmar Chinese Chamber of Commerce donated K1.048 billion to sup­port repairs at Nay Pyi Taw Children’s Speciality Hospital and the Obstetrics and Gynae­cology Specialist Hospital, both of which were damaged in the earthquake. The Myanmar-Chi­na Charity Foundation donat­ed K113 million to renovate the maternity ward and operating theatre at the Nay Pyi Taw Ob­stetrics and Gynaecology Spe­cialist Hospital. The Myanmar Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Entrepreneurs As­sociation contributed K78.175 million for the repair of the lab­oratory of the Food and Drug Administration Department.

 

Medi-Health Co Ltd and Drug International Ltd donat­ed K95 million for two modular offices for use by the Depart­ment of Public Health. The My­anmar-Chinese Women’s Asso­ciation contributed K15 million.

 

The Union minister and rel­evant officials accepted the do­nations, presented certificates of appreciation to the donors, and expressed their gratitude.

 

According to the Ministry of Health, the repairs to hospi­tals, buildings, and laboratories damaged by the earthquake will be carried out as per engineer­ing assessments based on cat­egories and levels of damage as outlined by the Ministry of Construction. Professional en­gineers will conduct systemat­ic evaluations, and repairs will proceed as quickly as possible under the supervision of the Ministry of Construction. — MNA/MKKS
