U Than  Swe, Deputy Prime Min­ister and Union Minister for For­eign Affairs, received Mr Sajjad Mohammad Sajid, Head of Office of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Myanmar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning. Mr Ramanathan Balakrishnan, United Nations Resident Coordi­nator and Humanitarian Coordi­nator ad interim also participated in the meeting.

 

During the meeting, they discussed on ways and means of further cooperation between the Government of Myanmar and the United Nations and its related agencies, following the visit of Mr Martin Griffiths, Under-Secre­tary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Office of the Coor­dination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in August 2023.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister also held talks with Dr Md Mon­war Hossain, Ambassador-desig­nate of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at the same venue in the afternoon.

 

During the call, they cordial­ly exchanged views on further consolidation of bilateral relations between the two countries, ex­pansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas including bilateral trade, invest­ment and connectivity, successful implementation of repatriation of verified displaced persons from Rakhine State as well as region­al and international matters of common interest. — MNA/TTA
