Improvements for an earthen lake is being carried out in Talaikya Village, ChaungU Township in Sagaing Region in order to ensure the availability of drinking water, Daw Khin Soe Win, an official from the Department of Rural Development said.

The earthen pond is 330 ft. in length, 90 ft. in width and 7 ft. in deep and is being dug by the DRD with the use of heavy machinery at a cost of Ks. 7.38 million of the Union Budget. The local lawmakers and members of the township quality inspection committee made a field trip to the lake to assess the work progress, calling for timely completion and meeting set standard.

Residents from the village face scarcity of water and rely on the rainwaters from the lake. In order to prevent local people from being shortage of water, repair works for the lake is being undertaken.—Yamin (Shwe Oo Myay)
