THE Ministry of Energy has been exerting continuous efforts to fully restart ageing oil refineries, petrochemical plants and large fertilizer factories.

Thanlyin refinery is being implemented as a refinery capable of processing three million tonnes per year. As part of the initial phase (Phase 1), the refinery will operate soon with a production capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year.

The Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with national entrepreneurs and modern technologies, is endeavouring to systematically drill oil wells and upgrade the network of oil and natural gas pipelines. Moreover, the ministry is intensifying its efforts in adopting technologies (AI, 3D Seismic) for oil and gas exploration, developing new oil refineries to produce high-grade fuel oil domestically, and setting up new fertilizer factories.
