Encourage manufacturing iron and steel wares at home

In accord with the theme “industrial capacity to develop the nation”, improvement of the industrial capacity is a drive for shaping a modern, developed nation. As the industrial sector is essential for the development of Myanmar, both the government and the people are to join hands in improving all sectors and the socioeconomic status of the people based on good results of the industrial sector.

Actually, Myanmar is blessed with natural resources not only above and underground and above and underwater areas. Hence, it is necessary to combine the high capacity of citizens including capital, technologies and materials with better management of the government to utilize these natural resources for the sake of the nation.

The government is building the nation with the necessary infrastructure. In so doing, construction sites require various items of steel and iron wares. As such, the country needs to establish iron and steel mills which can manufacture necessary iron and steel wares to be used at home. In this regard, the Steel Mill (Pinpet) which was suspended for more than four years due to various reasons will be operated in the future.

The mill was built in 2004 and it was operated for 72 hours in October 2016 without a computer control system. At that time, the test-running process secured success. Hence, the mill lost its possible benefits due to a lack of operation. For the time being, the machinery installed at the mill caused decayed.

The Steel Mill (2) in Pinpet aims to manufacture pig iron as a main product. In order to produce pig iron, the mill is formed with 22 workshops, 19 of which have been operated on the test without loads while three remaining workshops are being repaired by Russian and Myanmar experts as well as technicians for conducting the test-run process.

The steel production process is important for the nation. It is necessary to implement the steel mill projects under systematic schedules in order to timely complete these mills. As construction projects across the nation require a large volume of iron and steel parts, not only the government but the private sector need to encourage manufacturing iron and steel wares at home under the necessary disciplines.

Only when steel mills emerge in the nation will they manufacture iron and steel wares to be used in construction projects as well as public use. On the other hand, these mills will encourage the excavation of oar from the mines and the recycling of waste iron parts in society to be able to produce useful products.
