Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the high school enrolment for Grade 10 and 11 of the 2020-2021 academic year has started on 13 July in the regions and states, in conformity with the precautionary measures of the pandemic issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports.

“The admission to high schools across the country has started for Grade 10 and 11. Those students and parents who come to enrol in the schools must wear a facemask, wash hands and measure temperature at the school gate, stand six-feet apart for social distancing. The teachers are monitoring them not to have a crowd. We have arranged the chairs at six feet apart and increase the number of classrooms for social distancing,” said U Toe, secretary of No. 2 BEHS Mingalardon Township, Yangon Region.

The school enrolments are available between 8 am and 1 pm from 13 to 17 July. Additionally, enrollments for Grade 10 and 11 are on different days. “Some parents are worried about the reopening of the schools due to coronavirus concerns. Some are thinking about a one-year break from school. Yet, I do not want any barrier to education, so I decided for my child to return the school instead. Sure, we will strictly follow the school guidelines and health instructions related to the viral disease,” said Daw Khin Htwe, a parent. After the enrolment, the high schools are scheduled to reopen from 21 July. The schools are planned to reopen under two separate shifts depending on the number of students. In a few weeks, the elementary and primary schools will be reopened.
