Mandalay 22 October

A plan is being drawn up for the development of Myanmar fisheries sector, according to research team of Center for Economic and Social Development.

The initiative is being carried out with € 20 million funded by European Union and Germany. “The plan, aimed at promoting export sector and upgrading fishery sector is being drawn up by conducting research” said an official from the team.

Myanmar is currently facing the decrease of fishing availability from inland and marine areas. Arrangements are being made to boost fishery sector in Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway Regions, according to the team.

“As there are very few people who earn their living by operating fisheries in Myanmar, the officials and fish breeders are discussing how to draw attention of the people in the fishing industry” he added.

The meetings between fish breeders and fish entrepreneurs were held across the country to exchange views on experiences and advices.
