No casualties were reported after a boat caught fire in in Kyunso Township, Taninthayi Region on 11 June, according to the Fire Services Department.
    

 

A passenger boat named “Aung Myat Min” belonging to a man identified as U Htay Aung from Ngamannchaung Taung Village caught fire when some workers were loading goods. The fire is believed to have started from an overheated wire shock. The ferryboat is 57 ft. long, 15 ft. wide and 6 ft. draught.
    

 

Firefighters from nearby fire station in cooperation with villagers took about 2 hours to completely put out the blaze. The craft was badly damaged and two barrels of diesel were consumed by the flame. No one was injured but the estimated loss of property due to the fire is about Ks. 4 million.
    

 

In connection with the case, the police charged boat’s mechanic named Kyaw Zin Htike, 25 years old over fire negligence.—Myint Oo (Myeik)
