FINGERLINGS  were  released  on  13  September  into  the  Nar  Yakar  and  Hae  Htan  dams  in  Banmauk  Township,  Katha  dis-trict,  Sagaing  region,  in  a  move  aimed at enriching the country’s fisheries resources.

The  fingerlings  were  re-leased  in  a  ceremony  attended  by regional Hluttaw representa-tive U Win Shwe, Katha district Fisheries Department Deputy Di-rector U Tint Lwin, the township Police  Superintendent  Tint  Ko  Ko, Township Women Association Chairman Daw Nan Mya Than, locals, and officials from the relat-ed township departments.

About  30,000  fingerlings  of  rohu  and  20,000  fingerlings  of  barb  were  released  during  the  ceremony.

A total of 50,000 fingerlings of rohu and barb were released into the Nar Yakar dam in  BanmaukTownship. “Myanmar’s fisheries resources have become depleted due to illegal fishing and irration-al human activity, which has led to  scarcity  of  fish  habitats  and  water pollution.

Therefore,   we   need   to   add  fingerlings  to  produce  fish  in  lakes  and  creeks  as  well  as  paddy fields,” said U Tint Lwin, the  deputy  director  of  the  Dis-trict  Fisheries  Department.—Ngwe Oo (Katha) (Translated by Hay Mar)
