The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Myanmar Report Preparation Work Committee held its first meeting at Union Attorney General Office yesterday morning.

At the meeting, work committee chairman Union Attorney General U Tun Tun Oo said Myanmar’s UPR reports were submitted twice on 2011 and 2015. For the second cycle, Myanmar received 281 recommendations from 93 countries. A third cycle will be submitted in 2020 and a National Level Committee led by Vice President U Myint Swe was formed and implementing 12 work sectors. Our work committee was to prepare a report based on the sector wise information provided. The format of the report, matters to be included in, time table for the report were to be designated and submitted to the national level committee. All are requested to discuss and suggest on the inclusion of development and work progress on human rights, said the Union Attorney General.

Next, work committee members discussed and suggested on past experience in preparing report and preparing a complete report within the set time frame.

The meeting was attended by work committee vice chairmen Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Aung Thu, Deputy Minister for Office of the Union Government U Tin Myint, Union Deputy Attorney General U Win Myint, members of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, Deputy Judge Advocate General and departmental organizations. — MNA (Translated by Zaw Min)
