THE authorities provided the necessary aid and relief to flood victims in Waingmaw and Myitkyina townships of Kachin State on 10 July.
According to the Meteorology and Hydrology Department, water levels in the Ayeyawady River reached 1,001 cm in the morning on 10 July and climbed to the danger mark of 1,081 cm in the afternoon in Myitkyina Township of Kachin State.
The high water levels in the Ayeyawady River led to heavy flooding in the wards of Myitkyina Township. Kachin State Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Nay Lin Tun, U Zaw Win Tun, the Director of the Kachin State Fire Services Department, and concerned officials inspected the flooded areas and jointly participated in resettlement activities. A temporary relief camp has been set up at the Aungzeya monastery in Kyatpaungchan ward of Myitkyina Town, and 273 people from 61 households have been shifted to the camp. A total of 205 flood-affected people from Legone ward are currently being provided shelter at the Myasedi monastery.
Meanwhile, in Waingmaw, 125 people are being provided temporary shelter at the high school in Ward 2. The Meteorology and Hydrology Department is planning to issue hourly updates on the level of water in the river to the public.—U Win Naing (Translated by La Wonn)
