Mrauk-U, July 13

Downtown Mrauk-U and villages in low-lying areas have been inundated by Laymyo river floods starting from this morning due to sudden heavy rains in Rakhine state.

Laymyo River is exceeding its dangerous water level due to sudden heavy rains, causing floods to inundate Yangon-Sitway motor road, some areas near Myaungbwe and Nankya villages lying between Mrauk-U-Minbya motor road. Due to floods, people in IDP camps of Sinbawkaing, Myatasaung and Teinnyo in Mrauk-U township were evacuated to monasteries, more safer places.

Floods from Laymyo River also hit low-lying wards of Minbagyi, Okkabyan, U Soe Tint and Kyun Nyo in the town of Minbya.

Floods triggered by swollen creeks in Minbya inundated villages of Kwason, Pyinyaung, Kalamataung, Pweyatkanseik and Minkanseik in low-lying areas, it is learnt.— District IPRD (Mrauk-U)
