THE Myanmar government emphasizes the elimination process of online scams and gambling, which harm the international community as well as the entire world, as a national duty. To ensure that such activities gain no foothold within the country, the government is actively conducting suppression operations in coordination not only with domestic forces but also with the governments of neighbouring countries.
In doing so, the security members and administrative bodies, with regional officials, conducted operations to combat illegal businesses and illegal foreign entrants and demolished the illegal buildings in Shwekokko and KK Park areas. Moreover, the illegal buildings in Myawady-Maethawtalay (KK Park) were demolished systematically, and the illegal foreigners involved in online scams and gambling were also arrested.
Yesterday, the authorities arrested 148 Chinese nationals, three Thai nationals, three Filipinos, one Cambodian and one Russian, totalling 156 individuals involved in online scams and gambling near Metta Lin Myaing village of Myawady Township, together with 110 all-in-one computers, 2,200 mobile phones and other materials.
The offenders were detained at Myoma Police Station of Myawady, and the departmental officials took records of their personal data and other information.
The seized equipment related to telecom fraud and online gambling activities will be handled in accordance with established procedures, and the arrestees will be transferred to their respective countries through legal inspection on humanitarian grounds and bilateral relationships. — MNA/KTZH
