A ceremony to hoist new golden umbrella atop and to enshrine religious objects in the upper tier of Maha Vizarayanthi Pagoda in Amarapura, Mandalay Region was held yesterday.

The occasion was graced by members of the Sangha, minister for religious affairs and culture Thura U Aung Ko, Mandalay Region chief minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, ministers of Mandalay region government and MPs of the Hluttaw.

The pagoda’s diamond bud, vane and golden umbrella were brought down by a strong wind on 6th Waning of Kason 1377 ME. 

The pagoda was built by King Bagyidaw Sagaing at Viyanila Garden on 2nd Waxing of Tagu 1181 ME and the golden umbrella was hoisted atop Maha Vizarayanthi Pagoda on 5th Waning of Tabodwe 1185 ME.
