The protesters are increasingly furious after a police officer shot and seriously injured a student on Monday.

They continued their protest activity on Tuesday night, placing obstacles on roads in busy districts.

Students also barricaded themselves at a university and tried to block roads around the campus. The police told reporters that they were going to charge onto the campus.

Some protesters set fire to police vehicles and subway trains that were out of service.

Demonstrators are using social media to call on people to disrupt subway and bus services on Wednesday morning.

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam maintains that the government will strengthen the police crackdown.
