Nyaung U, April 22
A house and a warehouse were damaged by a fire caused by negligence near the temporary market in Taung Zin Village, Nyaung U Township, Mandalay Region, at around 5:00 pm on April 21, according to the Nyaung U Township Fire Department.
The fire started when U Hmat Gyi, a resident of Taung Zin Village, set fire to a garbage pile about seven feet east of his house. The flames spread to his 12-by-15-foot house, which had corrugated iron roofing and walls, and then extended to a nearby 15-by-15-foot steel-framed warehouse with a corrugated iron roof.
Firefighters led by District Fire Chief U Min Thein Htun and Township Fire Chief U Kyaw Min Thu, along with personnel from the Taung Zin Fire Station and local residents, responded to the incident using two fire engines and a water tanker. The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished by 5:20 pm.
Authorities have opened a case against U Hmat Gyi at the Nyaung U Township Police Station for causing the fire due to negligence.—Ye Win Naing (Nyaung U)
