A house fire broke out at 3:50 AM on 21 January in Ward 5 of Kengtung, Shan State (East), resulting in the loss of one life and the complete destruction of the house.

The fire occurred at a one-story house on Naungkhet Street, in Ward 5, in Kengtung, when the house owner, U Aung Naing, left his mobile phone charging. The phone overheated and caught fire, which quickly spread throughout the house. Firefighters responded promptly to the scene and extinguished the flames by 4:30 AM, with assistance of fire engines from the district/township fire stations and the Township Development Committee. Despite their efforts, the house was completely destroyed, and U Aung Naing tragically lost his life in the incident.

Kengtung Police Station has initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire.—Aung Zin Myint (IPRD)
